A routine drive down Sandpiper Road turned into an active rescue scene as Virginia Beach Animal Control officers worked to collect seven Great Pyrenees mix dogs loose in the Sandbridge area.
The operation unfolded near 313 and 317 Sandpiper Road. With dashboard thermometers reading 90°F, three Animal Control vehicles and three officers coordinated on-site to secure the animals.
Two of the heavy-coated dogs were already resting safely in the back of one vehicle, panting from the heat but calm and uninjured.
