Arriving at my West 25th Street office right around 11:00 PM, flashing red and blue emergency lights signaled a severe disturbance just steps away.
At the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and West 26th Street, emergency responders were working a violent two-vehicle collision.
The crash occurred between 10:30 PM and 10:40 PM, scattering heavy debris down Hampton Boulevard as momentum carried both vehicles south toward West 25th Street.
A Toyota Sienna minivan came to rest on the northwest corner of Hampton Boulevard and West 25th Street, showing deployed steering wheel airbags.
Meanwhile, a 4th-generation Kia Sorento ended up on the southeast corner, having sustained severe impact damage with its side curtain airbags deployed.
Norfolk Police Department 1st Precinct officers, including Officer Widman, alongside crew members from Norfolk Fire-Rescue (Station 6) managed the scene.
Two individuals remained on the sidewalk speaking with officers, while emergency medical personnel transported one person to a local hospital prior to 11:00 PM.
While the exact cause and direction of travel remain under investigation by the 1st Precinct, the wreckage along Hampton Boulevard underscores how quickly a routine drive can turn hazardous.
Late-night driving demands heightened vigilance. As emergency crews work to keep our streets clear, take an extra moment at intersections and stay mindful of your surroundings.
We send our best wishes to the hospitalized individual for a swift and full recovery. Stay alert and stay safe out there.
